Douglas R. Chapin, age 82 of Stanton, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016 under the loving care of his family and Heartland Hospice.

He was born the son of Manual & Ethel (Davis) Chapin in Riverdale on August 11, 1934. Doug is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Iva Fulton; brothers, Myrl Chapin and Dale Chapin; brothers-in-law, Dan Tuller, Cy Fulton, Lewis Dibble and Alan Whitcomb and sisters-in-law, Josie Chapin and Letha Chapin.

Doug is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy; daughter, Ginger (John) Gurecki of Stanton; sons, Dirk (Belinda) Chapin of Stanton, Todd (Marci) Chapin of Rockford; sisters, Arvell Dibble of Lansing, Audrey Tuller of Tawas; sister-in-law “AKA Wife #2”, Margie Whitcomb of Seminole, Florida; brother, Arnie (Pat) Chapin of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Betsy (Mike) LeVand of Stanton, Michael (Elizabeth) Gurecki of Lansing, Mitchell Chapin of Stanton, Morgan Chapin of Mt. Pleasant, Katie Chapin of Grand Rapids, Holly Chapin of Rockford, Melissa Chapin of Rockford and many nieces and nephews.

It was often said if the grandkids were in a tiddlywink tournament Doug would have traveled hundreds of miles to watch them because that was the kind of guy he was, the ultimate family man. Besides his family, Doug also loved to go fishing and play golf. Doug served in the United States Army and upon his honorable discharge Doug worked at the Michigan Department of Corrections for 29 years. After his retirement, Doug enjoyed going to garage sales in search of the ever elusive great deal. Doug will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Doug’s family will be celebrating his life on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 2 to 4 PM at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan where you will be free to come and go as your schedule permits and a late lunch will be provided. Doug’s final resting place will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Stanton.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made in Doug’s memory to the Central Montcalm Community Foundation and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
