Ed Springsteen
Edwin Frank Springsteen Sr., 92, of Sheridan, passed from this life on December 8, 2016 at Twin Oaks Country Living, Gowen, Michigan. He was born November 30, 1924 on the Brink farm near Dewitt in Clinton County.

Ed was a man of quiet integrity, humor, and faith. He was employed by Wyckoff Construction as a finish carpenter for most of his working years. In retirement he enjoyed carving, continuing his craftsmanship with wood.

After graduating from Sheridan High School in 1943, Ed served in the Navy during World War II on the aircraft carrier Essex. After the war, he completed a curriculum in refrigeration at Ferris Institute in Big Rapids.

Ed married Lois Kidder of Sheridan in The Peoples Church of East Lansing on May 10, 1947. Their marriage produced sons Ronald, Edwin Jr. and Kevin and daughter Joanne. Ed and Lois have lived most of their married life in and near Sheridan. In his younger years, Ed was active in the Lions Club, VFW Post 5065, assisting with Boy Scout Troop 60, and Little League baseball. Ed and Lois have been long-time members of the Congregational Church in Sheridan.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Aden Springsteen and Verda Springsteen Olsen, stepfather Fred Olsen, son Edwin Jr., brothers John and Donovan Springsteen, sisters Lorna Wolf and Loretta Potter, and step-siblings Marian, Marie, and Ronald Olsen.

Ed leaves his wife Lois, Ronald and his wife Dedra, daughter-in-law Wendy, Kevin and his wife Mary, and Joanne to honor his memory. Grandchildren Joseph Springsteen and his wife Maren, Jennifer Springsteen, Melissa and her husband Scott Holm, Emily Springsteen, Jesse Springsteen, Morgan Springsteen and her fiancé Max Beerens, and Alexa Springsteen carry on Ed’s heritage. Ed is also remembered by his sister-in-law Helen Springsteen, sister Madge Pontius, brother Harold and sister-in-law Dorothy Springsteen, brother-in-law Donald Sovereign and his wife Suzanne, sister-in-law Nancy Cotton and her husband David, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ed’s family is very grateful for the care provided by Green Acres of Greenville, Twin Oaks Country Living, and Spectrum Hospice. Memorial contributions are suggested for Spectrum Hospice or the Sheridan Congregational Church.

A memorial service to celebrate Ed’s life will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Sheridan Congregational Church beginning at 11 AM with Pastor Phil VanDop officiating.
