Obituary for William Wells

Lieutenant Commander William “Mr. Bill” Wells, 69, died peacefully in his Jacksonville, Florida home on July 24th, 2017.

LCDR Wells was born on December 21st, 1947 in Greenville, Michigan. He attended Central Montcalm in Stanton, Michigan. In 1967, he joined the United States Navy to which he devoted himself completely. During his career, he was accepted into the officer program (NESEP Program) and earned his BS in Electrical Engineering at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in 1974. In 1978, he attended Wright Patterson Air Force Institute of Technology, earning his Masters in Electronic Engineering. He became a highly respected and decorated Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Officer in the years that followed. In 1987, he retired with honors after serving his country with pride for 20 years.

After retirement, he pursued other hobbies and embraced every opportunity he could to take on a challenging tasks or adventures. His love for music never wavered and always loved the opportunity to be a disk jockey and share his music with others. In his final years, he enjoyed taking on the task of planning and organizing his class reunion.

He is survived by his daughter, Tami (Jeff) Steinle of Jacksonville, FL; his grandsons Trent (Nikki) Clark of Edgewood, KY and Joshua Kirtley of Jacksonville, FL; his brothers Gary (Linda) Wells of Vienna, Va, Don (Dawn) Wilson of Stanton, MI, Steve (Christa) Wilson of Grandville, MI and sister Joyce Wilson-Hachman of Sheridan, MI. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. Wells & Dorlah Swift Wilson.

The family is forever grateful for the friendship and care Mike Bless gave to Bill making it possible for him to stay in his home in his final years as well as thank Jacksonville Hospice for the extensive care and compassion they showed in his final days.

Graveside services with full military honors provided by The Stanton American Legion will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Forest Home Cemetery in Greenville, MI at 11am. Visitation and luncheon will be held at The Stanton American Legion after the service. Funeral arrangements are provided by Simpson Family Funeral Home.
