Donald Dean Somervill, age 86 of Jackson, entered into eternal rest peacefully, surrounded in love by his family on Monday, November 27, 2017.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald & Amy (Boon) Somervill; his sister and brother-in-law, Florence & Ward Soper; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee & Crystal Somervill and Earl & Bernadine Somervill.
Surviving him is his wife of 66 years, Betty; daughters, Sharon (Blaine) Wittkopp of Portland, Brenda Gratz of Jackson and three grandchildren, Courtney Bedore of Atlanta, Georgia, Carmen Wittkopp of Kalamazoo, and Morgan Wittkopp of Portland.
He was a life member of the Rives Baptist Church in Rives Junction and also a life member of the Masons. He proudly served our country as a member of the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for many years as a lineman for Consumers Power and was a member of the Consumers Power Retiree Chapter of Jacksonians. He also enjoyed cash crop farming which he did for many years. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank the staff at Country Living AFC home in Portland and Ionia Area Hospice for the wonderful care they provided him.
Visitation and funeral services are being held at the Rives Baptist Church (2800 W. Berry Road, Rives Junction) on Saturday, December 2, 2017. Visitation is being held from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday. Funeral services will begin at 1 PM at the church with Reverend Chad Parmalee officiating. Final interment will be at the Jones Cemetery in Jackson.
