Obituary for DeAnna Staines

DeAnna Staines
DeAnna M. Staines, age 56 of Fenwick, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Metron of Greenville.

Preceding DeAnna in death are her grandparents, Anthony & Julia Smelik and Don & Erma Staines as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

DeAnna is survived by her parents, Ormand & Janet (Smelik) Staines of Fenwick; sister, Dawn Saladin of Fenwick; aunts and uncles Carlton & Pam Staines of Knoxville, Tennessee and Gerald & Lillian Smelik of Hamilton, Ohio, three nieces and their families, Ellie (Ian), Boden, Wyatt and Chase MacDonald of Fenwick; Roxanne (Peter), Ormand, Roman, Lucien and Thelen Faber of Greenville; Katie Saladin (Nick Provo) of Pompano Beach, Florida; and Johnny Smelik, Jr. as well as many beloved cousins and many, many caring friends.

DeAnna was a wonderful person who made a lasting impression on everyone she met with her beautiful smile, strong bear hugs and laughter. As a nurse’s aide, she worked in several area hospitals helping many people who were hurting and sick. Although DeAnna never had children of her own, she loved taking care of many neighborhood kids and her nieces. She was an enthusiastic Sunday School teacher who loved sharing her faith with others for many years. Gardening became one of DeAnna’s favorite hobbies. Tending to her flowers and vegetables gave her great pleasure and pride as she shared the fruits of her labor with others. DeAnna loved growing up on the farm as she especially enjoyed riding the tractor with her father in the fields. Her mother taught DeAnna how to make bread and cinnamon rolls which she became very good at, along with her white divinity candy. Although DeAnna grew up with many physical trials throughout her life, her faith only grew stronger. Those who had a chance to meet DeAnna were blessed by her positive attitude and faith in God. The family would like to thank Metron of Greenville, DeAnna’s second family, for loving, caring, making her laugh on her bad days and celebrating her good days and for their care and support to her family also.

Visitation with DeAnna’s family will be on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 2 to 6 PM at the Simpson Family Funeral in Sheridan.

Funeral services for DeAnna will be on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the Shiloh Community Church beginning at 11 AM with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Final interment will be Sunset Memorial Gardens in Ionia.

For those wishing to make a memorial donation in DeAnna’s memory the family suggest donation be directed to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church or made through the funeral home website.
