Obituary for Candy Merren

Candy Merren
Candace Sue Merren, age 71 of Sheridan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Spectrum Health United Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

She was born the daughter of Richard & June (Mitchell) Weiers in Ionia and they both precede her in death.

Candy is survived by her husband of 49 years, Mike; three children, Matt Merren of Greenville, Pete (Heather) Merren of Greenville, Kelly (Bryan) Woodhams of Belding; three adopted children, Steve (Pauline) Merren of Fenwick, Adam (Becka) Merren of Greenville, Kyle Merren of Greenville; her only brother, Rick (Karma) Weiers of McCormick, South Carolina; grandchildren, Josh Merren of Greenville, Kelsey (Jake) Clark of Belding, Jared Merren of Fenwick, Chasity Merren of Fenwick, Henry Merren of Greenville, Owen Merren of Greenville, Miranda Kiste of Greenville, Brandon Woodhams of Palo; great grandchildren, Hunter Merren, Hannah Merren, Max Clark and Ben Clark.

Candy was immensely generous, consistently supportive, ferociously protective, blunt and to the point; so that no one ever questioned what her true thoughts were, hilarious and self-sacrificing. Rarely has someone given so much and asked for so little. Candy briefly taught CCD at St. Charles Church in Greenville and was hopeful and faithful in all her actions. A lover of animals, babies, flowers, butterflies and of course, butter, which she put it on everything. Like her name she was sweet as candy and did nothing but sweeten the lives of those around her.

Life wasn't easy for Candy, but you wouldn't know it for she seldom complained and kept negative thoughts to herself. She loved all sorts of sports from golf to football but never played, instead found her role on the sidelines as her kids and grandkids’ biggest fan. She was a bit of a wanderer at heart, known for her spontaneous road trips in her younger years and continuously dreaming of a "trip out of town" in the later ones. With her passing, Candy has finally made her big trip and left a tidal wave of love and gratitude in her wake. Her family knows she has peace and comfort in the arms of the angels that awaited her arrival in heaven.

Candy’s family will be celebrating her life on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 5-7 PM at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan and you will be able to come and go as your schedule allows.
