Woodburn "Woody"  Ely
Woodburn “Woody” Ely, age 87 of Stanton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 18, 2018.

He was born the son of Roscoe & Olga (Baker) Ely on July 20, 1930 in Ludington and they precede him in death as well as a sister, LaRue Ely and brother-in-law, Robert Flink.

Woody is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Lou; daughters, Katie (Todd) Losee of Saginaw; Betsy (Corrie) Robbins of Kalamazoo; son, Rick Ely of Greenville; sisters, Marcia Flink of Grand Rapids; Meredith (Bud) DeJonge of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Aubrey (Landon) Teall; Trisha (Chris) Tecmire; Janell (Mario) Hernandez; Mike (Stephanie) Losee; Valerie (Richard) Olsen; Lisa (Ryan) Granger; West (Rose) Ely; Alex Ely; Betsy (Dan) Brown; Will Ely; Beth Ely; Richie Ely; step grandchildren, Deanna Ely; Kelly Ladderoot and fifteen great grandchildren.

Woody and Mary Lou have lived in the Stanton area since 1999 and were formerly of Saginaw. Woody was a member of the Stanton First Congregational Church where he sang in the choir and served as moderator. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and was the Manager of Morley Brothers Department Store for 30 years. Woody was a gifted musician who had a beautiful voice. He was a member of the Gratiot County Midstatesmen Barbershop Chorus. Woody also proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Memorial services for Woody are being held at the Stanton First Congregational Church on Thursday, March 22, 2018 beginning at 11 AM with Pastor Jamey Nichols officiating. His family will be receiving friends and family one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM at the church. Final inurnment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Stanton.

For those wishing to make a memorial donation in Woody’s memory the family suggests donations be made to the Stanton First Congregational Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
